Ammonium Nitrate

Overview Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Limited is one of the largest manufacturers of ammonium nitrate in India. DFPCL was one of the first companies in India to manufacture Porous Low Density Ammonium Nitrate (LDAN) Prills. This has brought about a sea change in the concept of blasting, since the early nineties. Today, we are the only producer of prilled ammonium nitrate in India. The company's manufacturing facilities at Taloja near Mumbai is based on the world-renowned technology from Stamicarbon of the Netherlands.

The production/ sale of various grades of Ammonium Nitrate was 1,00,000 MT for the year 2005-06. Achieving international quality standards, the company has started exporting to the Middle East and South East Asian Countries.

Although ammonium nitrate (AN) itself is not an explosive, it is an oxidiser and its main use is in the commercial explosives industry, as it is the cheapest source of chemical energy available today. It is used as a major raw material in the manufacture of water gels / slurries, emulsions, etc. AN prills can also be used directly as ammonium nitrate fluid oil (ANFO) explosives after mixing with the requisite quantity / proportion of fuel oil.

Applications DFPCL is part of every Indian's life - our ammonium nitrate based explosives are a vital part of every construction & infrastructure project, and indispensable in the mining of every mineral - be it coal, iron ore, copper, bauxite, or any other. Also, almost every operation theatre uses our products. More on Applications

Brands DFPCL has changed the way ammonium nitrate (AN) is sold. While it was earlier treated as a commodity, it is now treated as a specialised product. We have developed AN brands of various grades for optimum performance, tailor-made to specific customer needs.

OPTIMEX® - Coated Ammonium Nitrate for HANFO / ANFO blasting in hard rock and doping of bulk explosives.
OPTIFORM - AN in uncoated form, preferred by makers of slurry explosives.
OPTISPAN - A special AN grade, for the pharmaceutical / nitrous oxide industries.

Quality DFPCL's strives to be sensitive to its customers' requirements and maintains a high level of quality consciousness. We regularly seek feedback from our customers. A recent customer satisfaction survey revealed that DFPCL's products are highly regarded for their:

  • High level of purity
  • Accuracy of bag weight
  • Quality of packaging
  • Shelf life
  • Oil absorption and retention
  • Bulk density
  • Free flowing texture

Capacity Expansion DFPCL is seeking to strengthen its position in this industry segment by increasing its production capacity. We recently acquired Smartchem, also a manufacturer of Ammonium Nitrate to augment our production and market share.
